Eastern Woodland Print Communications

Corporate Identity & Marketing Kit
Eastern Woodland Print Communications

Eastern Woodland Print Communications "are a self-sufficient Native owned and operated print communications company with particular interest and expertise in serving the First Nation community and related government agencies." As a non-Native it was important for me to really understand the history, culture and visual language of the Mi'kmaq so I researched and read everything I could get my hands on that related to Mi'kmaw culture. I combined images of the natural environment with traditional motifs like the eight-pointed star and double-rainbow to create a corporate identity true to L'nui'ta'smik - the Mi'kmaw Way. The logo is a stylized reworking of the Double Curve motif, one of the oldest Mi'kmaw design traditions.

Halima

Logo, Card, Brochure & Poster Shells
Halima

The client needed a new logo and some marketing materials that she could easily update and change. I started with a bold logo and visual identity to communicate the energetic and life-enhancing services that she offers through her classes and workshops. I used these tools to create a series of poster shells and a brochure that the client could edit and print herself from Microsoft Word.

Understanding the Early Years

Understanding the Early Years Campaign
UEY Pictou, Antigonish and Guysborough / Kids First Association

Understanding the Early Years is a government-funded "initiative that enables communities across Canada to better understand the needs of their young children and families so that they can determine the best programs and services to meet those needs." The marketing tools we developed were used to spread awareness of the study and encourage community involvement. The posters, brochures and newsletters were available in libraries, public health offices and other community centers.

Carpenters & Millwrights Kit

Kitfolder and Brochures
Nova Scotia & Prince Edward Island
Regional Council of Carpenters, Millwrights and Allied Workers

The Council came to us to create a marketing package for them that would include a general kitfolder to represent all of the Council's stakeholders as well as two brochures specific to the Carpenters' and Millwrights' unions. In the initial stages we were pretty light on content so I had the opportunity to do a lot of the copywriting myself. Step 1: figure out what exactly a millwright does...

Gift Card Wobbler

Point-of-sale Promotion
Maritime Travel

This was a fun little project where I was able to implement some illustration into the the campaign concept. The fun and quirky illustrated components suited these promotional pieces perfectly - they were fixed to flexible plastic hangers so they would wobble and move in an eye-catching way.

Direct Mail Publication
Maritime Travel

This project was a redesign of an existing Maritime Travel bi-annual direct mail publication. The goal was to refresh the overall look while bringing the graphic standards in line with the rest of the Maritime Travel brand. Colour blocking, a strict 3-column layout and rigid consistency with the typography keeps the information clear and makes the images really pop.

Vacation Superstore

Vacation Superstore Campaign
Maritime Travel

This campaign was a pretty straightforward updating of the materials from the previous year. It involved flyers, posters, ads and a billboard for expo-type events in several different markets. It went really well though and we got some really positive feedback from the client - apparently they had their best year ever for turnout and sales.
